A Study of Unmarried Mother¢¥s Pregnancy Experience in an Area


Abstract
The purpose of this study was to discuss the nature of pregnancy experience among unwed mothers and to figure out what it meant for them, by asking some of them to reflect .on themselves in a written form from interpretative and phenomenological perspective, based on Colaizzi research method of the same approach.
The subjects in this study were seven unmarried mothers. The data were collected through in-depth interview and observation. The statements of the participants were taped. recorded and analyzed to select substantial themes. According to the results analyzed, 41 themes were extracted and then these were analyzed again. They were composed of 15 clusters of themes, which were classified into 5 categories.
According to 5 results categorized, they experienced the following processes; `they enjoyed a cheerful meeting¢¥, `they realized their pregnancy which they had not wanted,¢¥ ¢¥their minds changed frequently in their early pregnancy,¢¥ `their feelings changed as their abdomens were getting swollen¢¥ and they accepted the future delivery as it was. Considering the survey results, we could know unwed mother¡¯s¢¥ physical and mental pair occurred during their pregnancy. And we verified that we should develop nursing inter-vention necessary for these people and we should understand and accept their pain.
It¢¥s attempted in this study to clearly show how much unmarried mothers suffered from pregnancy, and this effort paved the way for seeing unwed mothers in a new light and hav-ing a better understanding of them, instead of sticking to general perception.
